Why libraries choose makemake

Serving Spanish-Speaking Communities

Finding high-quality digital content for Spanish-speaking and bilingual patrons is difficult. Most platforms have scant Spanish language offerings and the few books available are either poorly translated or generic slop.

MakeMake offers public libraries instant, unlimited access to a curated collection of Spanish-language literature from over 95 Latin American publishing houses.

We offer authentic reading experiences with culturally authentic stories and vibrant illustration styles that open windows into multiple cultures and worldviews.

  • Web-based platform and native apps: MakeMake offers a light, browser-based HTML platform that works across library desktop kiosks, family iPads, or Android tablets. Native apps are also available for iOS and Android devices.

  • Offline reading with no DRM: Hassle-free DRM free system that allows for an easy offline reading experience.

  • MARC Records Provided: Effortlessly import high-quality metadata directly into your library's online public access catalog (OPAC) to drive maximum visibility and organic catalog discovery.

Safety

Accessibility and Safety

MakeMake prioritizes patron privacy by capturing minimal user data. The platform integrates seamlessly and securely via standard authentication frameworks to facilitate Single-Sign-On using your library's existing login systems. To maintain a 100% safe, distraction-free learning space for families, MakeMake contains no chat rooms, internal messaging, or open communication tools. Patrons can focus entirely on reading, with absolutely no risk of unauthorized online interaction or cyberbullying.

"A wonderful resource and
truly a treasure for our culture"

I deeply appreciate your advocacy for Spanish-language books through the MakeMake database and your programs. Your work helps make high-quality Spanish literature more accessible to families and supports librarians in promoting bilingual reading. I am also very glad that we have been able to work with you and be part of MakeMake throughout all these years.

Since 2010, Fundación Círculo Abierto has supported reading mediation processes. Our work with children's and young adult literature, and the desire to share it with many people, requires books we truly value from remarkable independent publishers, and that is what we find in MakeMake. This allows us to reach many reading mediators, who in turn accompany many children. We also feel that we share with MakeMake the desire to keep moving, to continue exploring new solutions and new paths so that reading reaches everywhere, while also making room to pause and immerse ourselves in a good book.

MakeMake is a highly recommended digital library. It offers high-quality digital books for early childhood, children, and preteens in South America. Its diverse catalog, the variety of digital formats, and the support it provides to reading mediators, educators, and families through dynamic cultural and academic programming make this platform one of the best proposals for fostering reading habits.

We have been MakeMake users for three years. In 2020, when we successfully moved our programs and services online, the material available on MakeMake was essential, together with the professional training support and the ability to share highly engaging activities for both children and parents. As pioneers in that format, MakeMake has proven experience and a strong track record.
